Double Row Tapered Roller Bearings Overview
Double row tapered roller bearings use two rows of tapered rollers to provide increased radial load capacity together with substantial axial capacity in both directions. They are designed mainly for combined loads in which the radial component is dominant.
The bearing can restrict axial displacement of a shaft or housing in both directions and therefore functions as a bidirectional locating bearing. Compared with two separate single-row bearings, the integrated design uses fewer parts, is easier to mount and remove, and provides high rigidity.
High Combined-Load Capacity
The increased number of rollers distributes load over a larger contact area. This enables the bearing to carry heavy radial loads and axial loads from either direction while maintaining a compact and rigid support arrangement.
- Higher radial capacity than single-row designs
- Bidirectional axial load capacity
- Bidirectional locating function
- High rigidity under alternating loads
TDO/TDI Designs and Clearance Adjustment
TDO outward-facing designs perform like two single-row tapered roller bearings mounted back-to-back and are well suited to alternating loads in gearboxes and winding equipment. TDI inward-facing designs use an outer spacer and are commonly applied to roll-neck supports under medium loads. Spacer thickness is selected to set radial and axial clearance.
- TDO: outward-facing, back-to-back equivalent
- TDI: inward-facing design with outer spacer
- Clearance set by matched spacer thickness

Double row tapered roller bearing structures: 350000, 350000 D1 and 370000
Bearing Structure Types
| Type | Configuration | Application and Adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| 350000 Type (97000 Type) | TDO outward-facing family with double cup and two cone assemblies | High rigidity and alternating loads; inner spacer sets clearance |
| 350000 D1 Type (37000 Type) | Modified double-row tapered arrangement | Compact integrated support with adjustable clearance |
| 370000 Type | TDI inward-facing family with double cone and cup spacer | Common for medium-load roll necks; outer spacer sets clearance |
Performance and Operating Range
The integrated two-row arrangement offers stable load distribution and high stiffness under steady or alternating combined loads. Grease or oil lubrication may be selected according to speed, load and operating environment. Standard material options include GCr15, GCr15SiMn and G20Cr2Ni4A.
Standard temperature range: -40°C to +120°C
